Tower is acrylic, graphite, and charcoal on cradled board finished with black edges.
Tower jumps forward with activity as shapes jostle for position among themselves. In the movement there is stillness. I like to envision the tower of figures sitting on the edge of an expansive emptiness that is only hinted at from this vantage point.

I love the juxtaposition of the rich fleshy reds against the cool milky yellows. In this mixed media piece I’m focusing again on my passion for lines. What fun to see how they are able to create objects and space. I have spent a lot of time looking at the shapes that the lines have created as they carve their way through the surface of this painting.

A blue cross surrounded by creations of all sorts and all colors. This is a study of a strangely ordered chaos, although the viewer may not understand the rules in place. That is how I perceive much of nature, a glorious jumble with precise but secret rhythms governing it all.

These figures look like trees in the fall up north, or beings from an ancient sect dressed in ceremonial winter garb. Beam is such a satisfying piece. Each element fits precisely with its neighbors.

Everything in Near seems close-up. The pink orbs float silently in the background safe from the danger of the bent nail’s sharp point.

A piece full of color and detail but it still strikes me as being very peaceful. The blue figure in this piece seems untouched by all the activity surrounding it. It stands solid and quiet among the noise and frantic activity. This is the first appearance of pink in my palette.

Spun is a lyrical universe that floats towards and away from the viewer in all directions. Multiple perspectives display plants towering over entire populations, forests bending in the breeze, all while signals are sent across vast distances and intimate conversations are quietly shared.

I created this second large piece living in Wisconsin and then while living in Washington discovered that the new ferns on the mountains blossom just like this yellow-green stalk in my piece. I like following the blue-stalked images marching up the red slope and behind the little figures safe in their capsule.

This piece, one of three in the Black Bar series, speaks of spring to me. Everything is small and budding. There's also something about the light that reminds me of spring - that very welcome, yet almost harsh in its brightness spring sunshine. The black bar anchors the piece and balances the light brightness.

One of three in the Black Bar series. This piece would float away without the black bar, I think. I like the balance of light and heavy in this piece.
21" x 15"
$790.00
Watercolor and Ink on Paper
This is one of the first pieces that incorporated watercolor with pen & ink. I like the austerity of color in this piece. It makes the white space even crisper.

I like the layering of purples in this piece and how the grays slowly come into focus and help to frame and shape the whole image. The image sort of reminds me of a deep sea diver in a wet suit and massive mask over his face obscuring his identity into a series of shapes.

This is one of three pieces in a series with the Black Bar. I love the Black Bar - I feels like it grounds the piece and there's something interesting about it interrupting the rest of the piece with no apology. The person who owns this said the title drew him in first and the imagery won him over. It's a rich and brooding piece.

This is part of a series of pen & ink and oil pastels that I did while living in Texas. Empty is an exploration of the feelings of lack and want. The empty negative space of this piece is stronger than even the rich deep red shape of the oil pastel. The delicate lines echoing each other are some of my favorite.
